HISTORY — Our Tea House Journey

Born from a Single
Bowl of Tea

Matcha, crafted by masters. A single piece, holding all its concentrated depth and aroma.
This is no ordinary confection.

A single piece that captures the very essence of matcha. When bitterness and sweetness meet in one confection, it transcends the ordinary — becoming an expression of the tea ceremony itself.

Generations of craft, fused with the gifts of the Uji terroir. Today, RYOKU-SHO continues to craft each confection at the intersection of tradition and innovation.

ORIGIN — Where It Begins

A Single Drop of Green,
Grown in Uji

South of Kyoto, a basin cradled in mist along the clear waters of the Uji River. The matcha grown here is regarded as Japan's finest, nurtured by generations of tea masters since the Heian period. RYOKU-SHO selects only the first flush from its most exceptional tea gardens.

01

FIRST HARVEST

Ichiban-zumi

Hand-picked around the 88th day after the start of spring, using only the very first tender leaves. Soft and rich in umami, these young leaves become the foundation of the finest matcha.

02

ADDITIVE-FREE

Mutenka

No additives. No artificial coloring or flavoring. We let the natural color and rich aroma of our select Uji matcha speak entirely for itself.

03

THREE-LAYERED

Sansou Jitate

Premium Uji matcha, kneaded into the confection to its limit, sealed whole at the core, and dusted across the surface — a three-layered structure built for depth.

METHOD — Our Craft

A Lingering Finish,
Born of Craft

RYOKU-SHO's matcha confections cannot be made on an automated line. Only the finest ingredients are selected, then carefully combined through traditional technique.

METHOD 01

Uji Tea Leaves

UJI TEA LEAVES

One of Japan's three great teas, Uji cha. Grown under shade, its young leaves are rich in theanine, carrying deep umami and sweetness. RYOKU-SHO uses only the highest grade of first-flush leaves.

METHOD 02

Slow Simmering

BOIL DOWN

Simmered slowly over an open flame, in small batches, using a traditional earthen kettle. Skilled artisans spare no time or effort in the finishing.

METHOD 03

Kneading & Layering

FLAVOR

Premium Uji matcha is kneaded into the confection to its limit, sealed whole at the core, then dusted across the surface as a final touch — a three-layered structure of pure flavor.

GIFT — The Art of Giving

Wrapping a Thought
in a Single Piece

Japan's gifting culture is more than an exchange of objects. It lives in the thought behind what is chosen, in the beauty of careful wrapping, and in a quiet wish for the person receiving it.

RYOKU-SHO's matcha confections were born from this tradition — as thanks to someone who has helped you, as a mark of a meaningful occasion, or as a message sent to family far away. Each piece carries the air and spirit of Kyoto to its recipient.

The wooden box, made to be kept, suits a formal gift. The drawstring pouch suits a casual gesture of thanks or a small token brought along. Both are designed with the same care — for the joy of the moment it's opened.
